Country of Origin Labeling is a requirement signed into American law under Title X of the 2002 Farm Bill. This law requires retailers to provide country-of-origin labeling for fresh meat. The program exempts processed meats. Congress passed an expansion of the labeling program requirements on 29 September 2008, to include more food items such as fresh fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Additional products such as fuel will also be added to the program that will let consumers know if they are pumping a domestic-made fuel, like ethanol, or fuel from a foreign country.
