An Expense is the money spent or the cost incurred in order to attain something of value. In business, it is the investment made in order to support the goal of attaining revenue. Expense can be the cost of debt in the form of interest, salaries for hired workers, materials from suppliers for production or maintenance, or even as the non-tangible cost of the depreciation of equipment or facilities.
