SKU stands for stock keeping unit. This is how any company or store keeps track of their inventory. From the time an item is received from the manufacturer, to the distribution center, to the time it is received at the store, the stock keeping unit is always scanned. When a store receives inventory, they will first scan the SKU and then type the quantity of the items shipped.
